Edisnote privacy policy

Edisnote is a notepad that lives in Chrome's side panel. Your notes stay on your computer. This policy says what it keeps, the one time anything leaves your machine, and what it never does.

Your notes stay with you

Notes, boards, images and settings are saved in your own browser, on your own computer. Edisnote does not upload them, does not copy them to any server, and cannot read them.

If you connect Edisnote to a folder, it also writes your notes there as Markdown files with an attachments folder beside them, so you can open them in Obsidian or any text editor. You choose that folder yourself through Chrome's folder picker, and Edisnote can only write inside it. Those files are yours and Edisnote never deletes a note file you have kept.

Sharing a note

You can turn a single note into a read-only link. This is the only feature that sends anything off your computer, and it only happens when you ask for it.

The copy that gets uploaded is encrypted before it leaves your browser, and only the link itself can unlock it. We cannot read a note you share. Anyone holding the full link can, so treat one like a password.

What we can see: that a note was published, how large it is, and when someone opened it. Never its title, its text, or its images.

Delete the share and the stored copy goes with it. The link stops working straight away, and no backup is kept.

Access to sites you visit

Edisnote asks for no access to the sites you visit when you install it.

Now and then a site will not hand over an image or a link preview you have asked Edisnote to save, and Chrome will ask whether to allow it. You can say no and Edisnote keeps working — most pages need nothing. You can take the permission back at any time from chrome://extensions, and it is used only to fetch the picture or page title you asked for.

What Edisnote never does

No accounts, no sign-in, no password.
No analytics and no tracking. Nothing in it reports how you use it.
No ads, and no data sold or handed to anyone.
No outside services. It loads no code from anywhere else.
No reading pages you have not asked it to read.

Deleting your data

Notes stay until you delete them. Deleting a note removes it and its images. Removing Edisnote from Chrome takes everything it held with it. Markdown files written into a folder you chose are yours — they stay where they are, for you to keep or delete.

A shared note is stored until you delete the share or it expires. Either way it goes immediately, and no copy is kept.

Limited Use

Edisnote's handling of user data follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Data is used only for the feature you asked for, is never sold or passed to data brokers, is never used for advertising or credit decisions, and is never read by a person.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. A change that affects what leaves your computer will be described here rather than quietly edited in.
